A First Step

Hey! I’m Freddy and I’m a student.

So far, so good. You might expect me to get more specific now and elaborate on my intentions for this blog, but I think that saying “I’m a student” is, in a broad sense, not just a description of my current occupation. ‘Studying’ things has always appealed to me, at the formal and informal level, and I plan to continue doing so even when I’m no longer enrolled. I also think that everything is in some way worthy of study, regardless of whether or not a corresponding course or degree exists. Imposing a divide between ‘academic’ subjects and phenomena of everyday life or popular culture strikes me as narrow-minded and counter-productive; any topic can offer insights if investigated and analysed properly.

All this should not obscure the fact that this is a non-professional blog, so irregularities in length, subject-matter, and output are to some extent baked into the cake. I also make no apologies for my views — if you disagree, please consider yourself invited to explore the logic and evidence I employ to arrive at them. Who knows? Maybe you’ll develop Stockholm syndrome.
